Coexistence is the third story I have produced throughout my senior year. This interview was much difficult than the last one because it required transportation to get there, it took place in a new environment, and who knew what could happen upon arrival. During Pre-Production, our goal was to interview students from Perth Amboy High School, JFK High School, and the woman who ran the whole art gallery. But things did not go as planned since when we were suppose to interview the woman in charge in the incoming week, she was unavailable. We needed to think of things quickly and the only thing we had was the interviews with students from Perth Amboy High School. Thankfully we had footage of Rachel Rotella and a soundbite of Angel Reyes speaking about the meaning of coexistence. We also decided not to interview the students at the location because it was really crowded and there was too much noise. Therefore, my partner and I decided to interview them at our local high school. Things that needed improving in the video:
Creating a sit-down interview story is no easy work. It always comes to the same issue, What story ideas are there? In the end, I suggested to my partner, Belkis Alvarado, that we should do a story on our good friend Angel Reyes. This became an advantage to us because we know him personally so we were able to come up with the perfect questions. With this, it allowed the audience to literally place themselves in Angel's shoes and experience what he has fulfilled while creating his pieces and what he can improve on.
So far producing "Balance" was one of the best sit-down interviews I've done. For the reason that, everything ran smoothly. There was a lot of b-roll to use during the editing process, I stayed after school multiple times to finish before the deadline, and during pre-production everything was prepared and ready to go. I even bought a China Ball to mess around with because usually it comes to using natural lighting during interviews. For the final product, the China Ball was also a success. The idea of using the China Ball came from Tom Oliva and Brian Lindenbaum, the founders of AAHSFF, when skyping with them. Their suggestion influenced me to d a little research. and found this website http://www.filmtools.com/
While shooting this short film, it was intense because as an actress I had to listen to the director who was Belkis Alvarado. I had to repeat a lot of shots and it was difficult to remain in place. The point of this video was to entertain and as a member of the tv production this was practice video for parallel editing.
I was looking forward to go to this trip in order to see all the films that were submitted for all schools in NJ. Also everyone went to workshops and it was interesting learning so many things that I could improve in my work and how I can create special effects like fake blood. I had a great time and I hope next time one of my classes video will be submitted in the top 25 category. During this production, I worked as the Camera "man" and my two partners and I worked together while editing. The main purpose for doing the Guitar Club Interview is to let the Perth Amboy high school know there is a club after school at the Performing Arts highschool. But the first thing we had to do was come up with the questions to ask Mr. Acevedo (Guitar Club teacher) , without no questions, their is no interview.
For this short film, my crew and I had to summit within one week. I thought it would be hard at first, however it was an amazing experience. We finished just in time and you can see that we've improved extremely with our videos. For me as an actress, it was weird since it was my first time really doing something like this. It was uncomfortable for me since i was the main character in the short film, but i began to get use to it while my crew was recording.
